You mixed it carefully, you poured it level, and it still came out looking like a foggy windshield. Or you're about to pour something you've been building for weeks and you want to know, before you commit, exactly what separates a glass-clear result from a milky one.
Clarity isn't luck. It's three things you control.
Ultra clear epoxy is a resin system formulated to cure optically transparent all the way through the pour, not just glossy on top. Three things decide whether you get it: the formulation you start with, how thoroughly you mix it, and the temperature and humidity of the room you pour in. Get all three right and a two-inch cast reads like glass. Miss one and the same resin goes hazy.
Clarity is transparency through depth, not shine on the surface. That distinction matters more than most first-time pours account for. A thin coat can look flawless because you're only asking light to travel a sixteenth of an inch. Ask that same resin to stay clear through three inches of a river table channel and you find out what it's really made of.
That's why we build two different systems rather than one compromise.
Liquid Glass Deep Pour is a 2:1 casting resin. Two parts resin to one part activator by volume, 100:44 by weight. It's engineered to cure crystal clear at real depth — up to 4 inches in a single pour, depending on your ambient temperature and total mass. It starts hardening in the first 12 to 24 hours, demolds as early as 48, and is hard enough to sand at around 72.
Superclear Table Top Epoxy is a 1:1 coating. Equal parts by volume, poured a maximum of a quarter inch at a time. It's a clear coat for bar tops and table tops, not a casting resin, and pouring it deep is one of the more common ways people accidentally manufacture a cloudy piece.
Both reach full cure and maximum hardness at 30 days. Hard to the touch is not the same as fully cured, and it's worth knowing the difference before you judge your own work.
We formulate and manufacture both in-house at FGCI in St. Petersburg, Florida, in small batches. That's the part of clarity you don't control and shouldn't have to think about.

Almost every cloudy pour we help troubleshoot traces back to one of five causes. Here they are in the order they actually happen, with the fix for each.
1. The resin was too cold. Below about 65°F, epoxy thickens up and can start to crystallize in the bottle. It looks wrong before you've even mixed it. Nothing is spoiled — but pouring it in that state is. Bring a pot of water to a steady 75–80°F and set each bottle in it until the resin comes up to temp, one bottle at a time. Then let everything settle back to around 70–75°F before you start mixing. Don't mix first and warm afterward.
2. It wasn't mixed long enough. This is the most common one, and the reassuring part is that the resin tells you. A properly combined mix stops looking streaky and goes crystal clear — that visual change is your gauge. On Liquid Glass Deep Pour, stir a minimum of 5 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom throughout. On Table Top and Designer Art Resin, mix 3 to 5 minutes, scraping hard for the first 3. Then pour everything into a second clean container and keep mixing. Unmixed resin clinging to the first bucket is the single biggest source of soft, tacky, hazy spots.
3. You whipped air into it. Stir it like hot tea, not like cake batter. If you're using a drill mixer, keep it on low and keep the head buried. After you pour, give the bubbles about two minutes to rise on their own, then sweep a heat gun back and forth from at least 6 inches above the surface. Don't hover — holding heat in one spot distorts the surface. And you can't chase bubbles out from below; they only pop once they reach the top.
4. You scraped the bucket into the pour. Once you start pouring, stop scraping. The material clinging to the sides and bottom is the least-mixed material you have, and dragging it into an otherwise good pour is how you get cloudy patches and soft spots in an otherwise perfect table.
5. The room was damp or dusty. Pour between 70°F and 84°F in a clean, dry, dust-free space, and avoid high humidity — moisture is a genuine enemy of clarity. Lay plastic sheeting, level your surface, and then leave the piece alone. On a deep pour that means up to 72 hours undisturbed. It'll feel tacky at 24 hours; that's not an invitation to touch it.

Whether cloudy cured epoxy is fixable depends entirely on whether the haze is on the surface or inside the resin. Look at the piece from a low angle under a bright light. If the fog moves as your viewing angle changes, it's surface. If it stays put and you're looking into a milky body, it's through-cure.
Surface haze is very fixable. You have two routes:
Through-body haze is not sandable. If a pour went milky all the way through because it was cold, under-mixed, or poured too deep for the product, no amount of surface work reaches it. That piece needs to be repoured. We'd rather tell you that up front than watch you spend a weekend sanding.
One more thing before you judge a cure: give it the full 30 days before deciding the finish is final. Hardness and optical settling both continue well past the point the piece feels done.
Ultraviolet light is what threatens clarity long-term, and it's worth being straight about it. Superclear epoxies are UV resistant and already carry some of our Super-UV Inhibitor in their formulations. But no epoxy is completely immune to UV, so for anything that will live in partial or full sun — an outdoor bar top, a patio table, a serving tray that sits by a window — we recommend adding Super-UV Inhibitor Additive to your mix for extra protection against yellowing and ambering. If you're pigmenting, keep colorant at or below 12% of your total volume, and skip acrylic-based colorants — they can react badly with epoxy. Alcohol inks, mica powders, and liquid pigments are all fine.
The three usual causes are cold resin, insufficient mixing, and moisture in the air or on the substrate — in roughly that order of likelihood. Resin below 65°F can crystallize before you ever mix it, and a mix that never turned visibly crystal clear in the bucket will not turn clear in the mold. High humidity during the pour and cure window adds haze on its own.
Sometimes. If the cloudiness is suspended air from mixing, much of it will rise and clear on its own within the first couple of hours, especially with a pass of a heat gun from 6 inches up. If the haze is from cold resin or an incomplete mix, it will not clear — the resin is curing that way, and time won't change it.
If the haze is only on the surface, wet-sand through progressive grits and polish back to gloss, or scuff with 220–320 grit, clean with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol, and pour a fresh clear coat. If the resin is milky through its full thickness, sanding can't reach it and the piece needs to be repoured.
