epoxy countertop

Why Countertop Epoxy?

A brand-new countertop without the contractor bill.

Laminate countertops scratch, stain, and bubble at the edges. Tile grout yellows. Replacing either runs $2,000–$6,000 with materials and labor. Superclear® Countertop Epoxy lets you refinish both in a weekend for a fraction of the cost.

A two-coat system gives you 10–15 mils of glass-hard protection that bonds to laminate, tile, wood, and concrete. Chemical resistant to common household cleaners. Rated for indirect food contact per FDA guidelines when fully cured.

With pigments and metallic additives, you can make any surface look like granite, marble, or quartz — at DIY cost.

What Homeowners Are Saying

4.8 out of 5 stars from 600+ verified purchases

I redid my entire kitchen countertop for $150 in materials. The laminate was bubbling and ugly. Now it looks like black granite. My friends do not believe it's epoxy.
Rachel M. ✓ Verified Purchase
Did my bathroom vanity first as a test. So glad I did — the result was incredible. Now I've done the kitchen and laundry room too. No cracks, no peeling, holds up to everything.
Brian T. ✓ Verified Purchase
The customer support team helped me pick the right colors for a marble look. The final product is stunning. Better than anything I could have bought at a tile store in my budget.
Pam C. ✓ Verified Purchase
I was worried about food safety since this is my kitchen. The team confirmed the FDA compliance and gave me the technical data sheet. After 30 days cure it's completely inert. Very happy.
Steve N. ✓ Verified Purchase
Zero regrets. I've had it on my kitchen counter for nine months. Daily use, cleaning, cutting boards — no scratches, no stains, looks as good as the day I poured it.
Melissa V. ✓ Verified Purchase
Used it at my small restaurant on the prep counter. It has taken real commercial use — heavy pots, cleaning chemicals, food contact daily — and it is still holding up perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can countertop epoxy go over laminate?
Yes. Superclear® Countertop Epoxy bonds to laminate surfaces with proper preparation: clean the surface thoroughly, lightly sand with 220-grit to scuff the finish, wipe clean with isopropyl alcohol, and apply the base coat. Do not skip the prep steps — adhesion depends on a clean, lightly abraded surface.
Is countertop epoxy food safe?
Superclear® Countertop Epoxy is FDA-compliant for indirect food contact when fully cured (30 days). This means it is safe for surfaces where food is placed, cooked, or prepared — such as countertops. It is not intended for direct food contact applications such as cutting boards, serving platters, or bowls where food is cut or stored directly on the surface.
How long does countertop epoxy last?
With proper surface preparation and routine care, Superclear® Countertop Epoxy lasts 5–10+ years. The primary factors that reduce longevity are: cutting directly on the surface without a board (use a cutting board), exposure to very high heat (use trivets), and harsh abrasive cleaners. Avoid all three and the finish will stay clear and hard for years.
How much does a countertop epoxy project cost?
A typical 30–40 sq ft kitchen countertop refinish costs $80–$200 in materials with Superclear® Countertop Epoxy, depending on how many coats you apply and whether you add colorants or metallics. This compares to $2,000–$6,000 for professional countertop replacement with materials and labor.
Can I use countertop epoxy in a bathroom?
Yes. Superclear® Countertop Epoxy is moisture-resistant when fully cured and well-suited for bathroom vanities and sink surrounds. Ensure the surface is dry and clean before application, and allow the full 30-day cure before exposing to heavy or standing water.
How many coats do I need?
A 2-coat system is recommended: a base coat to seal and fill the surface, followed by a topcoat for the final finish layer. The base coat is typically tinted with your chosen colorant or metallic; the topcoat is usually clear to protect and add depth. For a thicker, more durable finish, a third topcoat can be added after the second coat has cured.
Where is Superclear® Countertop Epoxy made?
Superclear® Countertop Epoxy is manufactured by Fiberglass Coatings, Inc. (FGCI) in St. Petersburg, Florida. FGCI has been producing epoxy resins and specialty coatings in the USA for over 60 years.
